Review: Ethique Trial Pack For Oily Skin And Hair

Hello! If you follow me on Instagram, then you`ll know that we`re going through a stressful time. If not, here`s the update: baby hasn`t turned, so I`m scheduled for a C section on 30th of September. I am very worried since I`ll go through major surgery, but at the same time, I`m trying to be positive. At this point, there`s not much else we can do, and the most important thing is that I deliver the baby safely. With any luck, the surgery won`t be as bad as I imagine it to be.
Ethique Trial Pack for Oily Skin and Hair
Anyway, back to the post. In my latest cruelty-free haul, I`ve mentioned I want to try more zero waste brands, and that why I bought the Ethique Trial Pack For Oily Skin And Hair. Holland&Barrett has an amazing selection of zero waste products, but it can be a bit overwhelming to find the right one for you. I like the idea of a trial pack, as it gives you the option to test more products and see which ones work for you.

Background Info: I have oily hair and combination/dehydrated skin. Like I've mentioned above, there are plenty of options to choose from, but I was mainly interested in finding something to tackle the greasiness of my hair. Also, combination skin gives you the option to try products aimed for oily/dry skin types, and therefore, this pack seemed like the perfect choice for me.
Solid Beauty Bars
                                                                                            What`s inside?

Inside the pack, you`ll find 4 solid minis: a shampoo bar, a conditioner, a face cleanser and a face scrub. Let`s be honest, they look adorable and smell fantastic. But do they work?

St Clements Solid Shampoo Bar: It has a very citrusy smell thanks to lime and orange oils. At first, I was confused about using it. But after I got the idea (you REALLY have to lather it, and then massage it into your roots), I wouldn`t go back to regular shampoo. My hair used to get oily the next day after a wash, but with this, it took 3-4 days to see any oil residue. I`ve tried many shampoos for oily hair, but nothing worked as good as this. The bar also contains humectants, which draw moisture to your hair. In conclusion, you have healthy and shiny hair, but you`re not a grease factory anymore.

In Your Face Solid Cleanser: Some of the main ingredients are coconut oil, mandarin, cocoa butter and sea salt. I must admit, I didn`t expect this to work as well as it did. My skin feels sensitive lately and it reacts to any change I make to my routine. It`s a very gentle cleanser, and it feels soothing to irritated skin. After using it, my skin felt clean, but it didn`t lack any moisture.

Wonderbar Solid Conditioner: This one has such a lovely coconut smell. You can also use it in the shower to moisturize your body, due to its cocoa butter and Vitamin B5. On my hair, I think it did a great job at detangling and nourishing. But I always use a hair mask, so here it was trickier to see the results. Still, I`ll probably pick solid conditioner over regular conditioner as well. I also think that the fact that it`s a multipurpose product comes in handy, especially if you`re travelling or you`re on a budget. Or just want to reduce waste, like I do.

Gingersnap Solid Face Scrub: I liked the scent, but I found this too harsh to use on my face. So I`ve decided to use it as a body scrub, which worked better for me. This is not a bad product, but I would not recommend it to those with dry or sensitive skin.

Overall, I was very impressed with everything I`ve tried. After trying these bars, I`ve converted to solid shampoos and conditioners, and I`m not turning back. I loved the cleanser, and I`m intrigued about trying out more skincare products. How about you? Have you tried any solid beauty bars?

  1. I've never tried any solid cleansing bars, well, I mean apart from soap! These sound really good, I'll have to investigate further. On the baby front, I know it's easier said than done but C-sections really quite routine - I had one when I had my daughter - and you'll be in the best place too. Good luck, I hope all goes well for you! Lisa x

    1. Thanks for encouraging me! I wasn`t that stressed about it until I had the appointment with the consultant, and she told me all the risks. But like you said, they`re pretty routine, so hopefully all will be good.

  4. I hope the C section goes well! The main thing is is that you and baby are okay! And I really want to try solid bars like this. Obviously I'm very aware of how much better for the environment they are with no plastic. But I've never been convinced that they'd actually, you know, work? But this has convinced me to try some!

    1. Except the face scrub, these were all great for me. I know sometimes people struggle with the shampoo bars, but I suppose for some it takes a while until their hair gets used to the change.

    1. I think a lot comes down to the way you use the bars and that`s why some people give up. But once you know what to do, they`re great for you and the environment.

  13. I've never heard of solid cleansing bars before but I'm definitely intrigued, I really like how these are different from ordinary soap and the fact there's a shampoo, conditioner, face scrub and cleanser is amazing! I'll definitely have to pop into Holland and barrett. And I'm wishing you all the luck when it comes to delivering your baba, I had an emergency c-section and I was terrified as I had no clue what to expect but I was so focused of having him delivered the I kind of forgot about what was happening and healing wasn't so bad, definitely take things easy 💕
